Nervous Patients

A visit to the dentist can be stressful for some of us.
- Are you somebody who worries about your next dental appointment?
- Have you ever put off going to see the dentist because you are worried?
- Do you have nagging dental pain that has been going on for months, but you just can’t face having it checked?
You are not alone. Some studies have concluded that up to 75% of people surveyed have at least a little fear about dental visits. In addition it appears that 10%-15% of people have a great deal of fear — so much so, that it prevents them from having any dental treatment at all.
Common worries include fears about losing control, the sound of the drill, being in pain, injections, lying in the dental chair and having somebody standing over them. If you suffer from full blown dental phobia going to see the dentist can be overwhelming.
According to the Adult Dental Health Survey 2009, 12% of adults who have ever visited a dentist suffer from extreme dental anxiety.
What we can do?
The good news is that more and more dentists understand their patients’ fears. We are one of the dentists in Brighton that offers conscious sedation. With a combination of kindness and gentleness they can do a lot to make dental treatment stress free.
Ramin has a wealth of experience working with nervous patients. He believes not being in control is a major factor that increases dental anxiety. He actively listens to your concerns and keeps you in charge of the pace and the way you want your treatment to be done. He plans your treatment to be simple and comfortable. His gentle manner in conjunction with modern technique ensures that you receive a calm and relaxed experience.
Our dentists routinely work with nervous patients, patients with learning difficulties and patients suffering from mental health difficulties. This will assist in reducing dental anxiety for patients who require medical intervention.
Our Dental Nurses and receptionists are also trained to understand and support nervous patients and to help you through your whole journey from booking your appointment to finishing your treatment.
Dental phobia management requires a holistic approach and an understanding of the biopsychosocial factors that contribute to a person feeling anxious. All members of our clinical team are trained to deal with it with a gentle understanding, effective and evidence based approach.
